The fairground came to town in the first hottest summer in living memory. At first the police appearance of one small boy’s dad, who’d been there three more tragic seemed like one more reading events everyone got used to reading about in the papers. But as summer scorched in the papers, a most un-English way Sally, Dave Carter and his girlfriend, Sally, realised that when Adventureland had come to town, it had brought something else with it.

Reality began to change – to become, perhaps, unliveable – when Sally found a piece of antique jewellery to give to Dave for his nineteenth birthday. It and its partner, which fitted together in a way inexplicable to the human eye, were jewel-eyed crosses which reacted, though unpredictably, to the presence of evil.

And then the bad things began to happen. Little Tommy was the first to go, then Sandy and Jon, then Phil and Judy. Where were they now? Dave knew. He knew that the Ghost Train was much bigger inside than outside. Something behind it was worse than nightmares, enclosed and it was beginning to break out, its darkness spreading through the quiet streets.

Only Dave could stop it. But to do so he would have to travel through the doors of the Ghost Train to the land beyond, the land of Heaven, Hell and our own world lies in the balance – to the horrors of Limboland.
